"MNopedia" is a combination of "Minnesota" and "Encyclopedia." It's the shorthand the Minnesota Historical Society project team used while building this site and it stuck. Other names have been suggested, however: MinnOnline, Minnesota Commons, MNKnow, and more. Now that the beta version of MNopedia is up and running, we want to know if another name—perhaps one we haven't thought of yet—would better represent the site. Your ideas are welcome!

The name
MNopedia makes a nice parallel to the WikiPedia and is closer to our modern 'cloud' speak than the other more orthodox suggestions. Keep it.

Survey Sez
Best name (in my opinion) to come out of an early survey -- L'Étoile du Nord-opedia.
