Description

A beaded pincushion from the Dakota community at Prairie Island in Goodhue County, c.1930s. The left-facing swastika included on the cushion is a traditional American Indian (as well as Southeast Asian) symbol of peace and good fortune. Its use in Native art pre-dates, and is unconnected to, Nazism.
